ENHANCED MOTOR PROTECTION
Scenario
A client in the chemicals industry contacted BAWCo after a pair of 55kW AC motors were experiencing failures. These particular motors operate under harsh atmospheric conditions at the client’s plant, located along the North East coast of the UK, and upon an external visual inspection it was evident that the motor was failing due to water ingress.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Upon receiving both motors, all components were isolated, visually inspected and then tested to assess the extent and nature of the damage.
REPAIR & OVERHAUL
After the all faults were discovered, the process of repairing and modifying the motor could begin. This was achieved through:
- Dismantling, stripping and rewinding the stator.
- Baker testing the stator
- Varnishing the windings
- Fitting new, stronger bearings.
- Fitting new thermistors
- Fitting new anti-con heaters.
- Sealing all spigots and joints.
- Testing on Completed Motor
Following the repairs and replacement of the necessary electro-mechanical assets, the water resistivity of the enclosure was then with a two-pack high solid, aliphatic polyurethane topcoat which improved water and dust resistance from IP55 to a minimum of IP56.
